A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow by Jessica Redland @JessicaRedland @BoldwoodBooks #boldwoodbloggers @rararesources #romance #contemporaryfiction #bookreview

I am delighted to be one of the Bloggers to be opening the tour and to share my review today for A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow by Jessica Redland. I have read each one of the books in this series and I adore them. I am going to suggest you read them in order if you haven’t, but they can be read as stand-alone stories.

My huge thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for my spot on the Blog Tour and for arranging my e-copy of this book via NetGalley.

It’s time for the wedding we’ve all been waiting for…

Life at Hedgehog Hollow is never dull, although Samantha hopes that the new year ahead will be a little less chaotic as she prepares to marry the love of her life, Josh. But disaster strikes when she checks the rescue centre’s bank account after the festive season and discovers it has been emptied. Who would do such a thing, and why? With the future of Hedgehog Hollow now in jeopardy, planning a wedding has lost its shine.

Phoebe is desperate to escape the shadow of her family, infamously known for their attacks on Samantha’s beloved rescue centre. Could the kindness of the Hedgehog Hollow team be the chance she needs for a fresh start, or will her family’s secrets continue to drag her back?

MY REVIEW

I really don’t know how the author manages it, but this is once again an amazing book to read. I suppose you could read it as a stand-alone but in all honesty, you will get so much pleasure from reading this series in order.

As the title suggests, this one is about a wedding at Hedgehog Hollow, if you are following this series then you will know who it is! While the wedding is an important part of the story, it is about so much more than that.

This one is told in two voices and I adored it. Samantha is the owner and hedgehog rescuer, she has run the hedgehog sanctuary for a while and is doing great. Always busy but never too busy to help others when needed. The second voice is Phoebe, and while she had been mentioned previously she has a story to tell and if you thought Samantha’s was tough, Pheobe’s is definitely worse.

The way the two stories have been combined makes for some tough reading at times, and it certainly is very pertinent to the story that gradually emerges. Things at the sanctuary are hanging in the balance, but while Samantha and the rest of the family, friends and volunteers are doing their best, Samantha is run ragged.

Pheobe is a character who gradually emerges and I adored how she started to grow in confidence given the tough life she had been given.

This story is one that has some home truths that emerge, and for me, they are rightly deserved. Some interesting new characters and of course some old favourites. By the end of the story, I was struggling to read due to the watery eyes! Emotional it definitely was on many levels. I have to say that I think this is the best one so far, although I adore the previous books.

While there are some tough topics there are some brilliant fun moments, especially the naming of newly arrived hedgehogs! I also learnt more new things about hedgehogs as well.

This is a series that I would recommend reading in order, it is heartwarming and at times made my blood boil, but it also made me chuckle, grin and tear up. It is a brilliant read and one I would definitely recommend.

  1. Thank you so much for kicking off the blog tour, Yvonne, and for your gorgeous review of A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow. Delighted that you loved Phoebe’s story running alongside Samantha’s and that you enjoyed the home truths that were told. I completely agree with you about reading the full series as it’s a much richer experience following those threads and the character development that go across all the books although, as you say, I do write my books in a way that a complete story is told within that book and stand-alone is an option. Thank you once more. Really enjoyed reading your thoughts x
