Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce #bookreview #thriller

Today I am delighted to be sharing a book review for a book that I have had on my TBR for a while now. Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce is an excellent book.

Here is more about it…

Alison has it all. A doting husband, adorable daughter, and a career on the rise – she’s just been given her first murder case to defend. But all is never as it seems…

Just one more night. Then I’ll end it.

Alison drinks too much. She’s neglecting her family. And she’s having an affair with a colleague whose taste for pushing boundaries may be more than she can handle.

I did it. I killed him. I should be locked up.

Alison’s client doesn’t deny that she stabbed her husband – she wants to plead guilty. And yet something about her story is deeply amiss. Saving this woman may be the first step to Alison saving herself.

I’m watching you. I know what you’re doing.

But someone knows Alison’s secrets. Someone who wants to make her pay for what she’s done, and who won’t stop until she’s lost everything….

My Review…

How did I not pick this book up sooner! It is an absolute belter of a book. Picked it up mid-afternoon and put it down a few hours later when I had finished it. Yeah, couldn’t put it down.

This is a book that definitely falls into the domestic noir category, as well as being a psychological thriller. Before I started this book, I had seen some great reviews and I knew it was one I wanted to read. I did read the synopsis ages ago when I first got it but didn’t read it before I began the book. I like this going in cold style and it is something I do a lot.

I am dithering over the review for this book, in case you hadn’t noticed, it is because I thought it was excellent. So, Alison is a career woman and has just been given her first murder case. She has a daughter and a husband and things seem fine. The synopsis, now that I have looked at it, sums her up very well.

The story is easy to follow as I was reading and I found it kept me hooked, wanting to know the who’s, the why’s and finally getting to the truth. It felt straightforward as I read, but now as I try and write this review I realise that it is also not as straightforward as I thought. Trying to explain the plot without giving anything away is actually quite difficult!

I do like how the author gives the reader enough intrigue but also not too much at once. I found my emotions wavered for a couple of the characters and it was later in the book before I finally settled on who I liked or disliked. Very cleverly put together.

This, as I said is a domestic noir. If you like this genre then I think this is one that is either on your TBR or on your radar if you haven’t already read it. This is a very absorbing book, it has a great pace and it kept me hooked from start to finish. Very definitely recommended.

Many thanks for reading my post, a like or share would be amazing 🙂 xx
