My Week In Books (w/e 30th June 2019) #BookNews #MeAndMyBooks

Welcome once again to a round up of Bookish and Non-Bookish news! Once again a day late as I had a Blog Tour post yesterday!

What a week it has been, and not just because of the very random and unpredictable weather!

I have to mention the most amazing parcel I recieved last week from the Author Caroline James. I have been entering her competitions for a while now to win a certain little Bear! This time I was so lucky to have finally had my name pulled out of the hat! Not only did I win the gorgeous chap himslef, I also got a signed copy of her fabulous book The Best Boomerville Hotel, but also a smart little bag and card as well!!

I work a couple of nights each week and there are times when it really does pay to be awake right through, especially as the sunrises are so fabulous in Cornwall. Photo’s on my phone really didn’t do the stunning sunrise justice…

At the end of the week I got a wonderful surprise from Amazon in my email inbox, inviting me to join Amazon Vine Voices, Yes Me!!! What the hell, I thought originally that this must be a scam but they had all the right details on the email. So now I have 2 Amazon Badges on my profile ” TOP 1000 REVIEWER” and “VINE VOICE”.

I don’t share much in the way of really personal stuff, because, well… it’s personal. But on Thursday my Dad finally got to go to hospital to have his ICD implant (defibullator / pacemaker) fitted. I am so happy to say he is home and apart from a little discomfort he is right as rain. Phew such a relief for us all and it will take a lot of worry away as his poor old ticker has a bit of extra help now!

Well I suppose I ought to mention the books this week 📚😁

HIDDEN by ROGER A PRICE

I read this as part of the Blog Tour and I posted my review yesterday. A crime thriller that I thoroghly enjoyed though it does deal with some tough topics, trafficking and prostitution. It is part of a series but worked well as a stand-alone.

MEET ME IN MONACO by HAZEL GAYNOR & HEATHER WEBB

An absolutely stunning story that I adored. It’s about a small perfumier and a photographer who are brought together by chance by Grace Kelly as she hides in the perfume shop. This was a story that had me smirking and sobbing, beautiful and took me quite by surprise for many good reasons.

The Teashop On the Corner by Milly Johnson

This is the 2nd of my #20BooksofSummer books. It is also the 2nd Milly Johnson book I have read. It is also the 2nd time I have read one of her books from start to finish in one sitting. Another fabulous and absorbing read, I think I have found another favourite author to add to my list!

Someone You Know by Olivia Isaac-Henry

This is a book I have swapped into my #20 Booksof Summer list. When I made my list up I forgot to include some of the NetGalley Reads, this is one of them.

I found this to be one of those quietly addictive books, I wanted to know what happened to the missing sister and it kept me turning pages. A timeslip that alterantes between past and present to get to the truth. My review for this will follow soon.

Meet Me In Cockleberry Bay by Nicola May

I am on the Blog Tour for this one and, it is part of a series. I have not read the previous book and I wish I had before I started this one, there are returning characters and references that I want to know more about. It doesn’t spoil the reading but I am a nosy reader who wants to know all the gossip and shenanigans of the past stories! My review will be posted later this month.

WHAT I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO:-

PYGMALION by GEORGE BERNARD SHAW

I love the musical of My Fair Lady and it forms part of the work by Shaw. This is a version with a fabulous cast and is a BBC Audio Drama.

I borrowed this online using my libray card to access BorrowBox. I am pleased to say I have now sorted out my problems with listening to audio’s from them and it makes it so much easy for continual listening.

The Hat Shop on the Corner by Marita Conlon-McKenna

This is another BorrowBox Audio book and is a wonderful listen as I got to know the owner and customers of the local Hat Shop and also surrounding shops.

This is set in Dublin and has a good range of characters that the narrator does a fantastic job with. She has a great range to her voice and really brings the story to life.

Well that is my lot, quite a busy and interesting week for various reasons. I also just remembered I got my hair cut… and to be honest I had not long got up when I took the first photo😂😂😂😂 I didn’t realise how much my hair really needed cutting…😬

I think I waffled plenty long enough and if you are still reading this then I am impressed!

So I will wish you well for the week ahead and hope you all enjoy your reading. I have decided to take a few days away from the computer and social media to give myself a chance to catch up with other things, so I will catch up with you all next week 🙂 xx

I will leave you with a few photos of my garden at the moment… 🙂 xx

Thanks for sticking with this post until the very end! 🙂

  1. Congratulations on your prize win, that little bear does look cute! 🐻 Good to hear your dad is on the mend, a weight off your mind – and your head with your swish hair cut. Enjoy your break. I’m now off to investigate The Hatshop on the Corner x

  2. What a busy week you’ve had, Yvonne. Congratulations on the Amazon Vine invitation. I’ve been one of the Vine Voices for ten years and it’s been brilliant.

I love the sound of Meet Me in Monaco and The Hat Shop on the Corner has been on my TBR pile for many a long year.

    Great news about your dad!

  3. Glad you father is doing better. That little bear is soooo sweet! And you have some lovely flowers in your garden. This is the first time I’ve visited your blog and I really enjoyed your chatty tone. It made me feel welcome right away as if I’d walked into a friend’s home and been offered a seat and a cup of tea.

Love your new haircut! So summery 🙂 I was very tempted to get half my hair chopped off on Saturday, cuz i felt so hot these past few days, but my hair guy looked absolutely horrified and said it won’t be hot for much longer and i should calm down. LOL.

    Your garden is totes amazing!

    1. Thank you Norrie xx
I never have that many issues with my hair and it has been different lengths so many times. I am very lucky because it grows so fast.
I love my garden to, it is my peace and quiet place for reading or just sitting and watching the world go by! xx
